Fire Hydrant Flushing:
Peru Utilities will be flushing fire hydrants between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. in Peru and Grissom during the month of June.
It is necessary to periodically flush fire hydrants to ensure they are in good working condition in case of an emergency. While we’re flushing and immediately after, the appearance of tap water can be affected. Please take note of the following:
- Tap water may temporarily appear red, brown or dark in color. If this happens, run cold-water faucets in bathtubs at full stream until the water runs clear again.
- It is a good idea to check for sediment in the lines leading to the clothes washer or ice maker before use. These sediments are not a health risk. If you do notice sediment stains on clothes, the product "Iron Out" works well to remove stains.
- Water pressure inside homes may fluctuate during flushing. This is only temporary; normal water pressure will resume once the flushing period is complete.
- If faucets seem clogged or running slowly, remove and rinse screens.
The Peru Utilities Water Management Division regularly conducts thorough testing on groundwater, water being treated, and water being sent to homes, schools, and businesses closely monitoring and managing water quality at all times. We appreciate your patience as we work to protect your home and family.
